Director Biography –

Toby Hubner started his entertainment career in Hollywood as VP Development for Tomorrow Entertainment, which produced feature and tv films and tv series. He then started his own production company in New York, Kirksey and Hubner Inc. Their first production “Hard Choices”, appeared at Sundance and was picked as one of Roger Ebert’s top ten movies. Subsequent productions included Manhattan Moonshine, The Big Giver, and Big Hospital. Mr. Hubner’s writing/directing debut was with Deep Toad, a satire of the drug war. Deep Toad was selected to screen at the international Bufo Alvarious conference in Mexico City in 2018, attended by some of the world’s leading shamans.

Mr. Hubner’s next film was We Are Kings, starring bluesmen Sammy Blue and Jonathan Boogie Long. Boogie won the Guitar Center’s King of the Blues award and has toured with the late B B King and Samantha Fish. Also featuring Rita Graham, a former Raelette and Ray Charles recording star, and Bianca Ryan, who won the first season of America’s Got Talent. Chuck Wilson of the LA Weekly and the New York Village Voice called We Are Kings “that rare thing. A film about musicians where you actually look forward to the next song.”

Soul Guys followed We Are Kings, the second of Mr. Hubner’s trilogy of movie musicals and has just been completed in Paris in April, 2019. It features French African singing stars Dobet Gnahoré and Magou Samb, as well as acclaimed American bluesmen Sammy Blue, Mudbone Turner, and Ronnie Hicks.

The third musical in the trilogy will start production in Sept. 2019 in Arizona starring Boogie Long and Peyton Parker, a semi finalist on the 2018 season of The Voice.
